Brand: Cricut
My Role: Paper Artist

Cricut Venture is Cricut’s largest cutting machine, so we wanted a giant project to show off the capabilities of the new machine. The paper elephant served as a photo op for attendees of the launch event in July, 2023 and has been on display at Cricut headquarters ever since.
I also created a more user friendly ‘baby’ elephant project which launched on Design Space for Cricut users.
First, I sketched the pose and silhouette of the elephant to use as a reference when 3D modeling it. I created a 2 ft tall mock-up version to identify any needed changes, and get final approval before building the larger version.
The giant elephant needed over 80 pieces of gray poster board and multiple days of cutting just to prepare all the pieces for assembly. Due to the size & fragility of the paper, we decided to build the elephant in 6 sections and transport those to the final location where we would finish assembling. We poured small concrete footings for each of the legs to weight it down and keep it stable. We also constructed an internal “skeleton” for support. To frame the elephant on either side, we created 2 sets of giant ferns to go with it.
On site before the event, a team of 5 of my colleagues helped assemble the final elephant. Multiple people would have to hold the elephant up while sections were glued and the internal structure was adjusted. It truly was a team effort!
